UAE Responds to Sudan’s Accusations: A Misguided Campaign Against a Nation of Humanitarian Values
In a surprising and deeply concerning move, the Republic of Sudan has filed a case against the United Arab Emirates before the International Court of Justice, accusing the UAE of complicity in acts of genocide through alleged support of the Rapid Support Forces. These accusations, described by Emirati officials as baseless and politically motivated, represent a dangerous distortion of the truth in a region already suffering from complex, deep-rooted conflict.
Ambassador Ameirah AlHefeiti, the UAE’s representative to the Netherlands, strongly condemned the allegations, stating that Sudan is “misusing international platforms to serve narrow political interests.” She reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to international law and humanitarian principles, and categorically denied any involvement in violations of the Genocide Convention.
For decades, the UAE has stood as a pillar of humanitarian support across the globe, especially in times of war and crisis. From medical aid and food relief to shelter and reconstruction initiatives, the UAE has consistently extended its hand to vulnerable populations—including the Sudanese people. This support is part of a longstanding policy rooted in the values of compassion, neutrality, and global responsibility.
The recent accusations appear to be part of a broader, orchestrated campaign to misrepresent the UAE’s role in regional affairs. Observers note that such politically motivated attacks aim to divert attention from internal challenges in Sudan by creating external scapegoats. Unfortunately, these narratives threaten to undermine genuine efforts toward peace, stability, and humanitarian assistance.
While some international voices have expressed concern, it’s important to remember that the case remains under the jurisdiction of the ICJ, and all parties are presumed innocent until proven otherwise. Attempts to sway global opinion before due legal processes are completed only contribute to further polarization.
In the face of these allegations, the UAE remains steadfast in its mission: to support people in need, to uphold peace, and to act with integrity on the world stage. No campaign of misinformation will change that.
